PFC James R. Franklin killed RAF Woodchurch 18 June 1944

Hi guys

A friend has asked if I am able to help.

It it believed that PFC Franklin was shot dead during a V.1 attack in the vicinity of RAF Woodchurch, where he was stationed, on 18 June 1944. The day's events are covered in 'Diver Diver Diver' but makes no mention of this American casualty.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers
Brian

Do you know where Franklin was from (so we could possible get his serial number)?. With enough information it would be possible to get his IDPF file which would have information about his death.

Hi Rolland

The only thing I can add at present is that he attended South Park High School, Buffalo, NY, but it is a historian from that school who is enquiring!

Cheers
Brian

There is (a) James R. Franklin from Buffalo, NY, on findagrave (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/...es-r_-franklin)
as with "O.M. Corps" (1923-1944).

Here is his enlistment record:

https://aad.archives.gov/aad/record-...845827,7911538

He is also listed on the WWII casualty list but for Kings County NY, which is Brooklyn NY.

It would be possible with his name, rank and serial number to order his IDPF file (for a fee) from a site such as:

https://www.goldenarrowresearch.com/...onnel-file.php

They currently have IDPF files for men with last names A - L. If they have his, you would get it within a week or so.

The link Dennis gives puts him in the 2076th QM Truck Co (Aviation) part of the 32nd Service Group. This link has some photos from the unit:

http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/foru...um-9th-af-mps/

Note it says that there was a detachment of the group at Woodchurch.

In fact, this link says Detachment A of the 2076th was at Woodchurch:
