Spitfire crash at Henley on Thames c.1942

I'm looking for details of a Spitfire Mk V crash at/near Henley on Thames, Oxfordshire c.1942. It has been suggested the pilot was a Sgt Benson. Any info greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Larry Hayward

Great Thanks.

Perhaps the Sgt Benson is not a pilot name but the RAF Benson in Oxfordshire. Which reminds me if an RAF aircraft crashed I know the aircraft would normally be collected by an MU or Civil Contractor working for the AM - but typically where did the fatalities get taken? Its something never mentioned.

Hello,

If it was a Benson-based Spitfire, I suggest you consult the following book:

RAF Benson A Diary of Wartime Losses
Ottaway,Reginald H.
Andover:Speedman Press,2010
