Captured Ju 52
Hi to all,
does anybody know from which unit belonged Luftwaffe Ju-52 mistakenly landed on partisan airfield near Niksic in Montenegro instead at Tirana in Albania on the night of 24th October 1944? The plane captured by yugoslav partisans and soon after flew for yugoslav partisan aviation. I'm also interesting for her W.Nr? kind regards Newcomer |

Re: Captured Ju 52
The incident as such is reported in Yugoslavian publications, but unfortunately they neither quote a Luftwaffe unit nor a WNr. Later on, the aircraft was reportedly operated by the regular Yugoslavian Air Force.

Re: Captured Ju 52
The whole story about capture of that airplane were described in detail in post-war yugoslav literature, and even that plane were photographed during the war with partisan and regular Yugoslav Air Force marking. It is the first real transport plane in "Eskadrila za vezu Vrhovnog staba NOVJ" (Liaison escadrille of People Liberation Army of Yugoslavia Headquaters), and flew a lot of hours in the rest of war and after that. The second Ju-52 in flying condition Yugoslav Air Force got when in 2nd April 1945. one of that aircraft landed at Nin near Zara (today Zadar in Croatia). The crew consisted from 4 Luftwaffe airmen imprisoned in Tulln near Wiena and 4 USAF airmen. They had stollen that Ju-52 from nearby Langenlebarn airfield.

Re: Captured Ju 52
The pilot of Luftwaffe Ju-52 captured in 24th Ocotber 1944 was Fw Wainer Otto. He was captured by yugoslav partisans on that occassion and spent the rest of war as POW in yugoslav captivity. He stay in Yugoslavia after WWII, and lived in Ljubljana, because he was married there. Maybe it could be help to find WNr of captured Ju-52?

Re: Captured Ju 52
Hello,
I must excuse to all for wrong date about german Ju-52 captured by Yugoslav partisan. According to partisan source it was in 24th October 1944. In the book of David Oliver "Airborne Espionage" (p179) mentioned 4th November 1944. as the date. Maybe now someone could identify that plane? kind regards Newcomer |

Re: Captured Ju 52
The datum of mistakenly landing german Ju-52 on partisan airstrip I picked up from the book "Airborne espionage" by David Oliver, page 179, because the documents produced by Yugoslav partisans were unreliable for datum.
