Lt.Walter Schalles 9/KG27

Hi, Walter Schalles a pilot with 9/KG27 appeared to have flown virtually most of his 1940-41 combat flights with a fellow crewman called I believe Zimmermann?
If I'm reading his flugbuch correctly!
Could anybody confirm a Zimmermann with 9/KG27 or III/KG27 during this period.
Any help would be appreciated.
Steve.

You might be looking for Hans Timmermann:

Flugzeugführer Lt Schalles, Walter
Beobachter Freudenstein, Werner
Bordfunker Timmermann, Hans

Hi Matti, Timmermann is a very good call!
Its difficult to tell but could most likely be him.
Thank you very much for your swift reply.
Kindest regs,
Steve.

Re: Lt.Walter Schalles 9/KG27

Hi Matti, having looked over Schalles fb once again I'm quite convinced that it is Timmermann rather than Zimmermann. I think the first letter of his surname is more likely a letter T than a Z.

The strange thing is, this mission doesn't appear in the flugbuch for 2.6.40,
Schalles flew a Frontflug in 1G+IT to Dunkirk between 08.18 - 11.40hrs with a crew member named Schmidt. Its likely he flew again later when the forced landing took place.
I have Walter Waiss's book band II pg.156 where a bericht! report recalls the incident but I can't read or make out the German language report. If anybody could help?
Best regs,
Steve.

My info is not based on any primary source, but simply taken from the Waiss's book. Weiss gives also the code 1G+AT for the aircraft.

The report in the book states that they were shot in the right engine by a Morane. They landed at a small airfield just behind the lines and could repair the defective cooling tubing. Landing was 25.58 and start for home base at 21.05. Landing at Lille 22.14.
