A former Galland's Bf109F ???? (eBay picture)
Hello,
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Orig-Foto-ME-...item4aafd77683 Hmmm, what a strange machine! Could be a Bf109G or a Bf109F ... But looking under the wing we can discover something we have seen only on one Galland's Bf109F - MG fairing, including the MG pointing out of the wing, including the tarpaulin being so tight around the forward fuselage that we can see a FLAT supercharger scoop. So; do you agree? What unit then? Tschüss, Franck. |

Franck,
I do not dare to discuss Bf 109 matters with you, since you seems to have a very huge knowledge about this aircraft; however, could it be a JG 2 machine? I remember seeing a very similar photograph, of a Bf 109 F model from JG 2, on the book "La Luftwaffe attaque a L'Ouest" by Editions Heimdal. I am just adding a comment...as I said, I do not dare to discuss Bf 109 matters with PROS like yourself...kkk. All the best Adriano Baumgartner |

Hi!
no, no...the flat scoop is just an illusion. The leather cover is quite bulky, so when it overs the scoop, it does not take the exact shape of the scoops itself. So the scoop is most likely just a regular F/G scoop. It does appear to have wing cannons, however. |

Re: A former Galland's Bf109F ???? (eBay picture)
A very interesting photo indeed. To me, this is a Bf 109 F of Stab I./JG 1 taken at Wangerooge airfield in 1942 - the tip of the lighthouse of the island of Wangerooge can be seen in the background.
Maybe this aircraft with its wing armament is in fact the Messerschmitt that appears as the single Bf 109 F-8 in the strength returns of I./JG 1 throughout 1942 and until January 1943. Any comment is welcome. Jochen Prien |

Re: A former Galland's Bf109F ???? (eBay picture)
Hello,
Adriano, Harrisson & Jochen: Thank you for your comments! @Adriano: I haven't that huge knowledge you're talking about, I just have a (very) good & powerful tool - that I created for my own use - to manage my base which is - be sure - exactly the same every one is able to get on net. @Harrison ... And don't worry if you think I said something stupid say it - the cool way - since I'm very close to think the same about that tarpaulin stuff . @Jochen: My heart did balance between JG 1 & JG 2. Since you did recognise the background, I think you gave a valuable answer. (Should I say "as usual?). I know nothing about that Bf109F-8 version, except I thought it was never produced .... Hence we need effectively more comments. Thanks again for your comments and help friends; I hope someone will continue to add something about that plane. Tschüss, Franck. |
