First of all why and maybe based with that someone can help. If you mean France/Belgium/Holland, that would be easier to answer

Re: Luftwaffe units in 1943

sorry i should give a little more info. the town where i live is called chichester in west sussex (uk). the attack happen in 1943 some time in march. theres no record of what the AC was but 4 to 6 bombs where droped so i can only gess at a bomber. theres no record of any AC from the two local airfields ( goodwood and tangmere) being sent up to go afther this attacker so again i can only gess at a tip and run raid.

Not tip & run. Was it day or night? No mention in the KG 2 or KG 6 histories but a more accurate date would help! On 8 Mar 43, there were Do 217s of KG 2 active in the area (one crashed at Fernhurst)

where do you get that info from if you dont mind me asking. it was day time late afthernoon i belive, the thing is there no date or time only that it happen in march, the local record office has not got anything only a ARP record saying air raid in march and the police record says the same. the local hospital happen must of it records from that time destoryed in a fire in the 50's.

I wrote a book on Tip & Run raids and Chichester was never a target. I discovered (many years ago)and have researched the Fernhurst crash

Hi Gareth,

Check out this link.

http://www.ww2.dk/

Click Air Units then Bomber Units and then you can click on the individual units.

Also the excellent "Bomber Units of the Luftwaffe 1933-1945: A Reference Source Vol I/II" by Larry De Zeng and Douglas Stankey, detail many of the major ops some of these units were involved in.

Re: Luftwaffe units in 1943

hi chris,
so what could have it been then, i mean what type of raid, could it have been somthing much lager. eg a raid on portsmouth or a shipping strike and the pilot could find anything so he drop his bombs on chichester and went home.
the bombs where drop in the middle of town, about half a mile away from the railway juction and half a mile away from the a army post, so i cant see what they where afther if it was a strike ment for chichester.
