Re: Ju 88 3Z+DH 1./KG 77 Cudham 27 September 1940
This cannot be a typo, as a typist would hit next key.
In regard of the claim, British report would be in feet, so I presume this was transcribed from other sources, and may repeat the same error. Altitude of 500 m or 1500 ft is pretty low, again could be an error there. If not, then the aircraft must have been shot down elsewhere by someone else. Does anyone know, where the crew landed? |

Seems K may be not correct.

Re: Ju 88 3Z+DH 1./KG 77 Cudham 27 September 1940
Now, that makes sense. A case almost solved. Downed by fighters, finished by AA, though it would be nice to have some more details about exact circumstances.

German airmen of this a/c stated that they were hit by flak. NVM also gives: Absturz infolge Flakbeschuß - so I don`t think it is solved.

Re: Ju 88 3Z+DH 1./KG 77 Cudham 27 September 1940
Certainly, AA hit over Cudham at 1,500 ft could not have been the reason of the loss. So either the altitude is wrong, there was another claim by AA or the aircraft was downed by fighters, plenty of them around.
No idea, but the 5./KG 77 aircraft was lost in the afternoon, in sea. |

Re: Ju 88 3Z+DH 1./KG 77 Cudham 27 September 1940
So why the crew did not notice fighter attack?

Re: Ju 88 3Z+DH 1./KG 77 Cudham 27 September 1940
Crews were taken by surprise all the time (which is what an attacker hopes to achieve) and many never knew what hit them.
