7th PRG, 14th Sq, December 24th, 1944

Good Morning,

Does anyone has an idea or an operation-report which can give the time-frame of the above mentioned sortie ?.

The unit was 14th PRS, 7th PRG. The recce flight took place over the Bitburg, Germany Area, on December 24th, 1944.

The sortie # is 3710.

The flight must have been prior 14:00 hrs.

Can anyone help with the time of this recce flight ?

Thank you very much !

Hello Horst,

From "Eyes of the Eighth".

page 256
"the 27th Squadron received a package from Maj Gen, Lawton Collins VIII Corps Head Quarters. it contained Lt. Jeryl D. Crowell's dog tags and an identification plate from his F-5. When soldiers from Collin's command pushed south into the northern shoulder of the Bulge toward the Ourthe River they found the snow covered wreckage just east of the village of Somme Leuze, Belgium. Crowell had died when his aircraft crashed and burned on 24th December 1944 at about 1730 hours according to local people".

Hello Horst,

according to the MACR n. 11080 the F5E 43-29026 was shot down by enemy aircraft @ 12:35 near Marche (evidently Marche-en-Famenne).
Best regards.

Marco
