Fieseler Fi103R-4 Reichenberg Restoration

The Lashenden Air Warfare Museum’s rare Fieseler Fi103R-4 Reichenberg (piloted V1 flying bomb) has completed its 5 year restoration by Alexander Kuncze and team at Auktionshaus fur historic Technik in Geisenhausen, Germany.

The Fieseler Fi 103R-4 Reichenberg is believed to have been captured on the 23rd April 1945 at the Danneburg (Tramm) V1 factory by the 5th Armoured Division US Army & was returned to the UK in 1945, where it was displayed at the German Aircraft Exhibition at the Royal Aircraft Establishment at Farnborough from the 29th October to the 9th November 1945.

Acquired by the museum in 1970 the Fieseler Fi103R-4 Reichenberg was in a very poor condition having been kept outside for many years at various army bases and was due to be scrapped when it was saved by the museum. Displayed for many years in a semi restored state, the Fieseler Fi103R-4 Reichenberg moved to Germany in November 2007.

The restoration has returned the Fi103R-4 Reichenberg to the condition it was in when displayed at Farnborough in 1945. It is due to return to the museum in early January 2013 and will be placed in store until later in the year when the museum’s new display hall, which will double the museum’s display space is ready. Until then the Fieseler Fi103R-4 Reichenberg will not be available for viewing.

The museum still needs to raise £40,000 to cover the costs of erecting and fitting out the new display hall, donations are most welcome.
