Searching for an officer "Mentioned in Dispatches"....but no trace?

I post this in off topic because the soldier was injured during action in Italy.
This is a friend of mine's grandfather and he has recently received his war record showing he received the War medal with bronze leaf for dispatches mention.

I have searched on the London Gazette pages to no avail for his service number and name, so is there anywhere else I can try and find his mention in dispatches? He obviously was as he got the bronze leaf entitlement?

He was a Private.

First Name:
F
Surname:
Dudley
Date of Action:
01/10/1944
Fate:
Wounded
Incident Details:
Reported to War Office Casualty Branch for 48 hours ending at 9.00.
Incident Date:
23/10/1944
Information:
Casualty List No 1584.
Rank:
Private
Service Number:
4920244
Duty Location:
Italy
Service:
British Army
Regiment:
Gordon Highlanders
Battalion:
1st Battalion, London Scottish (Why is this important?)
Archive Reference:
WO417/83

Any help is very much appreciated as knowing the location he was injured in would help greatly.

Thanks, Neil

I have found regimental museums helpful as Bruce suggests. While researching a WW1 casualty, the relevant museum copied an 8 page war diary which allowed me to trace his last steps near Hooghe in Belgium

Hello,

Having trouble verifying a British Army MiD in the London Gazette. First port of call - is the late Michael Maton:
