418 Squdn pilot who claimed 2 Do 217 on 5/6 Sept 1943

Good night to all!
I am looking after the name of the crew from 418 Squadron who claimed two Dornier Do 217 on the night of 5/6 September of 1943 during an INTRUDER mission.
Code and serial number of the machine would be very appreciated too, if available.
Glad for your help
Adriano

Hi Adriano

Sqn Ldr Richard James Bennell RCAF is your man; his observer was Flg Off Frank Shield RAF. The first of the two Do217s was claimed near Worms/Biblis airfield, the second near Mainz/Ober Olm airfield.

This crew had previously claimed a Do217 on 3/4 March, and two damaged on 27/28 February and 20/21 May (all 1943)

Both Bennell and Field were lost on the night of 8/9 March 1944 in Mosquito VI LR270. He was then CO of 418 Squadron.

Hope this helps.
Cheers
Brian

Brian,
I do have no words to express my gratitude! If you have been following the Luftwaffe thread, you will see that one of the Dorniers Do 217 on this night was flown by Lt Hans Krause and his crew ( .5/NJG 3 ). They baled out OK.
Thank you so much! I tried but to find out on the NET but had troubles to discover the identity of the crew.
Yours very friend and sincerely
Adriano

Copies of my original 418 documents mirror Mr. Pauseys data with this crew encountering an unidentified type and a Do 217 that night.

My records indicate they were flying HX819 coded THF.

David:

Like you, I have been amassing details about 418 through the years. I too have a complete claims list that I have generated. At some point in time, I would like to publish the material.

Currently, my biggest headache is trying to find photos of 418 Squadron life and aircraft. While I have a number, I am always looking for more.

To the best of my knowledge, we have not corresponded before.
