german air raid Bari Harbour 2 dec. 1943
Hi folks,
Since I am conducting a research around the German attack on the Bari Harbour 2 dec. 1943 that it cost the loss of 17 allied ships and serious damages to the city for the explosion of USS John Harvey (that it contained 2000 bombs of mustard gas liquide Iprite), I would be interested to know consistence of the German strength of attack, departments of affiliation, origin, employment of particular weapons (e.g. LT350), losses in action. In this case, is knows the involving of kampfGw 26,54,30,76,100. I would be thankful besides if someone gave me information around the UK/USAF Squadron that day in the aerodrome of Bari-.Palese near the city; it would seem in fact that an nightfighter Beaufighter is taken off on alarm but without success. As the action it is known it had so much success to define the accident as "a second small Pearl Harbour." Cheers Pino |

Try looking for "Bari" the Forum's search facility. I did post a list of the Gruppen involved but it was a long time ago and it might take me a while to find my source documents again.

Re: german air raid Bari Harbour 2 dec. 1943
Nuccio,
According to the KG 54 history by S. Radtke, 105 german bombers, whose 17 had to leave the mission because of various reasons, took part to the attack: so, 88 did effectively attack. This book contains a short report of the attack, and I may translate it to you in a PM. Only two bombers were lost, one of them being Ju.88A-4 B3+EH (300267) of the 1./KG54, the four crewmembers were missing. ciao Gianandrea |
