New Books: Dutchies in de Fleet Air Arm

While working on his history of No. 320 Sqn. author/historian Nico Geldhof had collected a lot of material on Dutch aircrew serving with the Fleet Air Arm and decided to write a separate work on these men.

Dutchies in de Fleet Air Arm
Nederlandse Marinevliegers in dienst bij de Fleet Air Arm tijdens de Tweede Wereld Oorlog.
(Dutch Naval aviators in service with the Fleet Air Arm during the Second World War)

Nico Geldhof
ISBN 90-672-0398-X
2007, Geromy
260p + 16p of aircraft profiles
laminated hardcover

Nicely balanced book with a good general introduction about where these men came from, how they were trained and their operations. This is followed by c. 100 pages of short biographies. Finally attention is given to the equipment used.

To top it off we have 16 pages of aircraft profiles, with a total of 32 side views.

A good book, recommended.

Re: Dutchies in de Fleet Air Arm

Dutch Profile published a 12+3 page companion booklet that might interest some of you as well:

Dutch Profile No. 6
Dutchies in de FAA
History, Camouflage and Markings
Nico Geldhof & Luuk Boerman*

The Dutch Profile booklets are dual language publication, in both Dutch and English.

Well, it's a mixed bag and it just leaves me disappointed. Both the content in general and the small number of pages leaves me wondering if there really was enough material to publish this booklet in its current form. If you don't have the original Dutchies book you might find it interesting, but I have my doubts.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the work being done by Dutch Profile. The previous booklets in the series seemed to be well balanced and contained a lot of interesting information. I hope this is not the start of a new trend.

Also released was a Profile No. 7 on post war Avengers in Dutch service.

The publisher has further announced Dutch Profile No.8, about the Brewster Buffalo in NEI service. Really looking forward to that one!

Re: New Books: Dutchies in de Fleet Air Arm

Ruy,
Could you check to see if this book gives the full names of the following three Dutch FAA pilots:

D Th Challik
H Moekardanoe
Wladimir Saltykoff

Did they have service numbers? As far as I can tell, they are the only Dutch Navy pilots to make any air-to-air claims.

Many thanks.

Frank.

All info from Dutchies in de Fleet Air Arm.
