Keith

May I refer you to this eminent site, courtesy Henry deZeng IV?

While Berck-sur-Mer is listed there is nothing on Furnes/Cox. Perhaps listed with another name?

Cheers
Stig

Re: Berck Sur Mer and Furnes/Cox airfields

Many thanks. The site was very helpful. Apparently Coxyde was never used as a permanent base for fighters but rather as an emergency airstrip, likewise Berck-sur-Mer. It seems that attacks on these airfields possibly were against decoy or unserviceable aircraft.

regards

Keith

The problem with such airfields so close to the coast was that as the war progressed, they were increasingly vulnerable to attack as low level aircraft were hard to detect until it was too late. SKG 10 occasionally used Coxyde as a launch airfield in 1943

Yep...it definitely was not a careless mistake that could have been avoided if I had checked it before I sent it
