Dornier 17 R, S, U clarification

There is much fuss on the web, and in publications as well, regarding Dornier 17R, S and U subversions. Below is what I could gather and I hope you guys could add some details and/or clarify some things.

Do 17R - modified 17M with DB 601A, additional fuel tanks, Reihenbildner, all armament removed. According to known photos dorsal gunner position disappeared from 17R, giving the airframe extremally streamlined appearance.
4 a/c built:
Do 17R1 W.Nr. 2194 D-AORT
Do 17R2 W.Nr. 2195 D-ARZI
Do 17R3 W.Nr. 2196 D-ATJU
Do 17R4 W.Nr. 2197 D-AWIS (T5+NC crashed 11-Dec-1941, 1530 hrs in Leegebruch school building near Oranienburg)

------

Do 17S - modified 17Z with DB 601A (seems all gun armament was removed)
3 a/c built:
Do 17S1 W.Nr. 2184
Do 17S2 W.Nr. 2501
Do 17S3 W.Nr. 2502

Do 17S T5+FH s/d 13-Jan-40 by french fighters (photograph in Thomas/Ketley - KG200)
Do 17S D-ARED flew with Kommando Rowehl (photographs in Thomas/Ketley - KG200)
------

Dornier 17U - Führungsflugzeug with crew of six, modified 17Z with additional fuel and radio equipment, absence of bombing armament fittings (for example no bombsight fitted), standard Bramo 323A enignes.
Built: according to Dornier document in May 1938 RLM should order 15 Do 17U for 188.000 RM each.
Known W.Nr.: 2427, 2428, 2429

Regards,
Pawel

Are you sure that Do 17R4 T5+NC was equipped with DB 601 engines? The shape of the cowling suggests DB 600 (supercharger air intake above the exhaust stacks on the left side instead of in front of them).

Re: Dornier 17 R, S, U clarification

Good morning Pawel,
As at any one time details of Dornier 17 production, listing WNr's and blocks manufactured, and listing subtypes have appeared on this site, or indeed in any publications that you maybe aware of?

Im particularly interested in Dornier 17Z production and would be keen to see
any known WNr blocks, and where manufactured.

Any help appreciated.

Rgs,
Steve.

Steve, as far as I know there are no such listings published. W.Nr. blocks could only be extracted (possibly with large gaps) from loss reports, aided by some other very limited sources.

According to information available to me Do 17Z production took place at: Dornier München, Henschel Berlin-Schönefeld and Hamburger Flugzeugbau (Blohm Voss Hamburg).

Kind regards,
Pawel
