Arado Ar96... on floats?
Hi, folks...
Looking for some information on an unusual machine. I think the photo was in one of Ed West's recent offerings, but I can't locate it now... ! I have note that it looked like an Arado Ar96 trainer, but with floats attached instead of normal wheeled undercarriage, and that it was coded NH+AM or WH+AM. It would make a great modelling subject, but I never realised threre was such a variant. Could anyone help me out here, perhaps with unit/operational info? Thanks in advance. Obdl3945 |

Re: Arado Ar96... on floats?
Its an Ar199. According to the data I have NH+AM was the Ar199V-1.

Re: Arado Ar96... on floats?
This plate is reportedly from Ar 199 V-3 (D-ITLF, later TJ + HL), Werk Nr. 3673. The plane was downed by Soviet fighters in 1942 when serving with Seenotstaffel 10.

Re: Arado Ar96... on floats?
From the book "Arado - Geschichte eines Flugzeugwerkes" I have the following data:
Arado 199 V1: (Wk.Nr. 3671), D-IFRB, later NH+AM, proven at E-Stelle Travemünde 1940 and Kemi/Finland 1943. Robert |

Re: Arado Ar96... on floats?
Not at all Alessandro!
T'was a quite a different airplane: i.e Ar 196 had radial one engine; Ar 199 had inverted V12 in line engine. Regards, |

Re: Arado Ar96... on floats?
Robert, Stephen & Alessandro...
Thank you, too, for your contributions. One reason why I enjoy this site so much is because I ask a question from here in Scotland, and then get answers and contributions back from all over the world... Germany, Italy, Poland, America, Czech Republic, to name but a few... wonderful... ! Alessandro, thanks for the Arado link... yes, it was the wrong type of Arado, but what a film... ! I have never seen footage of one of the tricylce-float prototypes before, and watched in amazement as its engine cowling fell off and caught fire. It was worthwhile giving me that link, as I enjoyed it a lot. After watching it, there were also links to footage of the Focke-Wulf Ta154 and Arado Ar234, which I also watched. Once again, thanks to every one of you for your contributions. Kindest regards... |
