Lt. Col Grant Mahony, USAAF
Need help ref details of combat career of Grant Mahony. He flew 3 different fighters with success in combat: P-40, P-51 and P-38. He served in combat in each year that the United States was involved in WW2, flying 3 combat tours and held the D.S.C. Air Victories credited: 5-3-1 (conf-probable-damaged).
12.41 - 18.12.41 3rd P.S. Philippines; evac. to Australia 02.42 - 24.02.42 17th P.S. (Prov.) Java 09.42 - .07.43 23rd F.G., became C.O. 76th F.S. C.B.I. 09.43 - .06.44 1st Air Commando Gp C.B.I. 11.44 - 03.01.45 8th F.G., Deputy Group Commander, shot down KIA by AA fire, Philippines. Ground Victories: 10.12.41 Flying Boat ??? 14.12.41 transport a.c., 2 Bettys and 2 or 3 Zeros 23.05.43 3 u.i.e.a. Need to verify this 03.01.45 Seaplane on the Water Total Missions flown ?? Award citation for D.F.C. and O.L.C. of 31.05.43 shows 105 Missions flown 08.12.41 - 24.04.43 Anyone have additions-corrections ? Pyker |
