Nikolai Gulayev, the Pe-2 pilot
Good morning Gentlemen,
I'm looking for info about Nikolai Gulayev, the Pe-2 pilot (not the P-39 pilot). Where all of his kills scored in the Pe-2 ? Was his second name Dmitrievich (as indicated by Polak) or Semenovich ? Why did he die at the tender age of 45 ? Cheers, Michael |

Re: Nikolai Gulayev, the Pe-2 pilot
Hello Kirche,
thanks for the links. Not only is the middle name different, the family name is also spelled differently ! Unfortunately, my Russian is only rudimentary. Does the article reveal why Nikolay S. Gulyaev died at the age of 45 ? Cheers, Michael |

Re: Nikolai Gulayev, the Pe-2 pilot
No. He started his missions in June, 1941. On June 22, 1941 his unit (46 BAP, later 80 GvBAP) had 61 SB-2 and Ar-2 planes and was rearmed to new Pe-2s only in the fall of 1941. So he must have flown his first missions in a (probably) SB-2.

Re: Nikolai Gulayev, the Pe-2 pilot
Hello Kirill & Gabor,
thanks for your posts. Tomas Polak in STALIN'S FALCONS attributes 14 aerial victories to Gulyaev. He also claims that his regiment was newly equipped with the Pe-2 at the beginning of the war. From Kirill's post I learn that Gulyaev's first regiment wasn't 46.BAP. That might explain the two Pe-2 kills indicated by Polak: Messerschmitts on 22Jun and 24Jun 1941. Is there a complete victory list to be found anywhere ? Cheers, Michael Last edited by knusel; 14th March 2017 at 22:11. |
