P/O Bernard Green MC Hampden L4087

Hi guys

P/O Bernard Green, a WWI veteran with the MC, was A/G aboard Hampden
L4087 when it was shot down off Denmark on 20 July 1940.

Green survived to become a POW. What was his age and circumstances of his MC?

Above details taken from Air War over Denmark website.

Cheers
Brian

Re: P/O Bernard Green MC Hampden L4087

I have seen some suggestions that he was in the Ox & Bucks Light infantry but strangely when looking up MC holders on Wiki his name doesn't show!

BTW his grandson wrote this book about him thought it has been criticised in a few reviews

Great War to Great Escape: The Two Wars of Flight Lieutenant Bernard 'Pop' Green MC [Hardcover]

Brian,

You will find notification of Green's Military Cross, here:

https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/...upplement/6466

See also: p.6462 for the initial entry.

There is also an informative entry in the following:

Royal Air Force Bomber Command Losses of the Second World War Volume 1 1939-40 2nd Edition.
Chorley,W.R.
Hersham:Classic Publications,2013.
p.170.

Col.

Re: P/O Bernard Green MC Hampden L4087

See

http://www.militarian.com/threads/gr...-auction.5339/

he was "57 in 1944" so he was born around 1887

Bernard, who was shot down off Denmark in 1940, died in 1971 aged 84. = 1887

"Bernard Green was born in Bourne End, Buckinghamshire on 23rd December 1887."

Can't get any more accurate than that...
