Werke nummer question?
Hi everyone,
I have in my collection a very rare Dornier Do 217 engine cowling, (top part, two halves lift up for maintenance) I noticed that each panel has the number 861 painted on the inside, could they be the last 3 digits of the Werke nummer? Would be wonderful to identify it! Kind regards Melvin www.aircrewremembrancesociety.co.uk

It was common for both Dornier and Junkers to hand-paint werk numbers on the inside of hatches and cowlings.
However...the only aircraft that had 3 digits for the werk would be the Do17E-1...and that model had a totally different cowling. All other Do17/217 variants had 4 digits for the werk. So in this case..I suspect it is engine of cowl werk #. Mike
