Re: Areal photo of crashed B-17 in Germany
I can find a "Finningen" on Google Maps, the next town NW of Hochstadt but not a "Finningeb". Finningen and Hochstadt share a border, so they are adjacent.
It still would seem possible that we might be talking about 43-38664 though, as we are in the right area and on the right date. It would be interesting to get the detail reports for the 82nd FG and maybe the 14th FG for 14 April 1945. Here is a link to the 82nd FG April 1945 reports. They can be ordered from AFHRA. Do you know how to do that? http://airforcehistoryindex.org/data/000/080/898.xml Last edited by RSwank; 3rd February 2017 at 00:34. |

Re: Areal photo of crashed B-17 in Germany
HI RSwank,
sorry for the typo and thanks for the message. Finningen is correct. I need to check how to order the detail report. I'm interested to understand for sure. Thanks again and I will try to order it and as soon I have more info I'll let you know. Rolf |

Re: Areal photo of crashed B-17 in Germany
Rolf,
The address to order the documents/cd is: AFHRA.NEWS@US.AF.MIL as is shown on this page: http://www.afhra.af.mil/Archival-Requests/ The Instructions on how to order are here, but they show the wrong (old) ordering address. http://airforcehistoryindex.org/obtain.html The documents may be on a CD which will cost $30. |

Re: Areal photo of crashed B-17 in Germany
Found the attached reports in the 95th BG mission files for the April 11, 1945 mission. One B-17 was seen on the ground at 4938-0817 at 12:07, another one at 4837-1058 at 12:44. While the second location is not exactly at Finningen, it is at least in the same area.

Re: Areal photo of crashed B-17 in Germany
Hello,
These are the US claimed made for the ETO on the 4th & 14th April 1945. How many were air or ground claims and P38 claims would have to be checked out. 4th Squadron 12 RCN - 4 ( 1/2; 1/2; 1; 1/2; 1/2; 1). 15 RCN - 3 ( 1; 1/2; 1/2; 1 ). 162 RCN - 1. 316 - 3 334 - 1 + 1/2 336 - 1/2 354 - 1. 355 - 3. 357 - 4. 378 - 6. 383 - 1. 385 - 1. 504 - 4 ( 1/2; 1/2; 1; 1/2; 1/2; 1). 505 - 1. 14th Squadron 111 RCN - 1. 161 RCN - 2. 356 - 3 ( 1; 1; 1/2; 1/2 ). 390 - 1 ( 1/2; 1/2 ). As far as I can make out ALL the above claims were P47 or P51 victories. Alex Last edited by Alex Smart; 6th February 2017 at 18:00. |
