Bf109G-1 black 1 JG52

Greeting all,

in the book "Planes of the Luftwaffe fighter aces", author Bernd Barbas, on page 154, was published several images of the crashed airplane flown by Walter Nowotny. This airplane was uniform dark top coat and this is described as the paint similar to the RLM82. Images were taken in November 1942. Any idea about this color- s any new info appeared in the meantime?

Cheers

Re: Bf109G-1 black 1 JG52

Have you seen the Thierry Dekker artwork and that also made by Claes Sundin for W.Nr 10360? Both artists render a Dark Green, possibly RLM83 or even captured Soviet paint.

I've not seen any other pictures than the ones you mention and can only presume that the above artists had used them also.

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris,

this airplane have all stencils in white, regular is black, so its more might to be factory finished airplane. It happen to the G version to fly in one top coat, mostly RLM74 and 75, but to regret no precise info about this sample.

Re: Bf109G-1 black 1 JG52

Little remark: Germans never used captured Sovied paint, because of its low quality.

With JG 54 green camo was paint with 71, 71 and 79.

Re: Bf109G-1 black 1 JG52

Two points - the plane is a G-2, and it was a borrowed airplane from 2./JG 54, Nowotny being the Kapitan of 3./JG 54 at the time.

WNr. is a G-2 WNr. Plane is listed in Gen.Qu. loss reports as such.

Re: Bf109G-1 black 1 JG52

Also - on second thought I think Nowotny was Kap. of 1./JG 54, not 3., though he had previously belonged to this unit.
