P/O J.J. McElligott, 12 Sqn., 19 May 1940.
A relative of Pilot Officer James Joseph McElligott has asked me to post an appeal here for him. P/O McElligott died as a result of his Fairey Battle, L5538 'PH-A', from 12 Squadron being shot down in France on 19 May 1940.
I have sent him some saved EBay images of this aircraft. Useful, but unfortunately none show the serial. He has access to the 12 Sqn. ORB, various published works, etc. He asks if anyone has a photo of his relative, P/O J.J. McElligott, or a better image of Battle L5538 showing the serial. Hoping someone can help. Regards, Martin Gleeson. |

Thanks Faenor,
I believe that aircraft is L5538, based on the entries in the 12 Squadron ORB. Hopefully, some images will turn up showing the serial. Regards, Martin Gleeson. |

Have you tried posting on the Fairey Battle Light Bomber fb-group?

Martin,
Looking at the photos of PH-A that I have. I cannot see any serial number on the rear fuselage or on the fin. I've tried enlarging the photos but no luck. Dave |

Luke McElligott tells me:
I was not asking for pictures of the serial number, I just wanted high quality copies of any pictures of the aircraft, which I would pay for if required.Luke's email is: luke@silverarm.co.uk |

Hi Nick Beale,
I have just the copy of the photos from e-bay, just with the name of the auction. These photos I already shared on link modelari.org, so I can´t help more. Faenor |
