Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Yes but that was an artillery piece. In service in 1941. This is testing for the Luftwaffe in 1944. This looks like testing for a new purpose, like anti aircraft.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
This type of rocket would not be suitable for antiaircraft use. Instead, I think this shows a test of a rocket propelled artillery shell on a simplified launcher. This launcher would have been used in the field, and based on what I see, would be sighted by eye and the elevation would be changed for different distances. It reminds me of the 'Stuka zu Fuss' that was fired from its packing crate (a board or two had to be removed) when mounted on the sides of a Sd.Kfz. 251 half-track.
It would have to fly higher to be used against aircraft when launched from the ground. The apparent altitude I see does not appear to be very great. Ed |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
(Post No.2373 etc.)
Hi everyone I bought this pics with the He 111Z because I am interested in this type from operational history at Dijon-Longvic and Dole-Tavaux. Maybe I can bring "some more light in the darkness", there is a writing on the back, which says: "5-motored German plane at airport near Beedenbostel, May 1945". Beedenbostel is near Celle, in the triangle Celle-Wesendorf-Gifhorn in Lower Saxony. As I see, there were some airfields used by the Luftwaffe in this area (-> www.ww2.dk). Maybe someone of you can now exactly locate where this pictures have been taken. Regards Harry |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Thanks a lot for this info Harry - In the meantime we pinpointed the location of this airfield to Dedelstorf, which is actually quite close to Beedenbostel. So I think this is one more confirmation

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Thank you, Christian, quite an interesting lot of Luftwaffe places in that part of Germany.
I forgot, the picture in post No 2368 (Bf109) is also marked "Wrecked by Germans before retreating, near Beedenbostel, May 1945". So this picture might also be taken at Dedelstorf. Regards Harry |
