Mission Report 50th FG O Toleranz 11t 1944
Hallo All,
based on J. Priens book "Die Jagdflieger der Luftwaffe Part 13 / 2" there was a combat / dog fight over Black Forest, west of Freiburg. Involved in this dog fight were groups of JG 53 and 50th fighter group. Is anybody in posession of the mission report of the 50th FG? The III./JG 53 lost at least 2 planes. Claimes and mission reports would be very interesting for me. Tanks in advance Rolf Last edited by Rolfeb; 14th February 2024 at 18:34. Reason: Typo |

Could you clarify the date? I may have some information depending on which day this occurred.

Re: Mission Report 50th FG O Toleranz 11t 1944
The 50th claimed only one Me 109 destroyed (no probables or damaged) when Capt. James H. Rickard shot one down northwest of Donaueschingen. Here is his report, "I climbed to 19,000 feet trying to get above dogfights. I was still climbing when two (2) Me 109's attacked out of the sun. They moved to about five o'clock position to my number four man. I called a break and turned into the 109's. One of them rolled over and split-s'ed out, but the other one continued to close in on my number four man. I fired a short burst at 90 degrees, he broke toward me and I turned on his tail. I took two (2) short bursts at 30 degrees and then closed in to zero degrees deflection for a good burst. He then rolled over on his back and dove to the ground making aileron turns going down. I fired several more bursts and broke off at about 9,000 feet. I did not see him after breaking but my wingman saw pieces flying off during several bursts. I was indicating about 500 MPH when I broke off and thought if he could pull out if his ship was damaged."

Rolf,
I just discovered one misprint in my typing of the combat report. In the very last line, it should read "doubt if he could pull out if his ship was damaged." I typed "thought" by mistake. Kent Kent |

Re: Mission Report 50th FG O Toleranz 11t 1944
Hi Rolf,
according to 50th FG's operation report, 12 P47s from 313rd FS took off on an Armed Recce mission at 15.49, Capt. Rickard leading. The Americans engaged some Bf.109s and one of them was claimed destroyed by Capt. Rickard NW of Donaueschingen, W-5829. The squadron returned without loss at Bron at 18.47 hours. Hope this helps.
