Ju 88 Part with Werknummer and losses in southern france
Hi,
we are currently doing some research about Ju 88 Wrecks near the coast of Marseille. For some wrecks, we found already good information in the archives (Losses from 1943). But at least two of the wrecks seem to be from spring/summer 1944. So we have a problem with the missing GQM loss lists. We also started a research via WAST, but this will take a while. Does anybody have detailed information about Ju 88 losses in southern france in 1944? (Date, Typ, WNr.) I found about 30 Ju88, didn't return from missions (starting from airfields in southern france), but i have no details right now. Units: KG 26, KG 76, KG 77 (KG 30 was only some days in Istres in 1944.) For one wreck, we found the Werknummer: 550911. But i didn't find any information about this WNr., except the Stammkennzeichen, wich was PN+PZ. Losses with similar Werknummer starting about 10.1943. Thanks a lot for your help Lino |

No details here on this one, but many aircraft just before that number were finished and flown at the factory in February and March 1944.

Re: Ju 88 Part with Werknummer and losses in southern france
Thanks a lot for the information. I think the time window to search
will be spring to summer 1944. KG26, KG76 or KG77. There have been a lot of losses already before Operation Dragoon. (August 44) Mostly losses in relation with ship convoy attack missions. @Chris Goss: Do you have Details for the 550914 / KG 77 ? Do you have a loss or damage date? |

Found it! Ju 88 A-17 550911, 3Z+BH of 1/KG 77 was lost 20 km south of Marseilles 30 Jul 44. The only crew names I have were Uffz Werner Wunderich (BF) and Uffz Paul Enning (BS). I believe both were lightly wounded

Re: Ju 88 Part with Werknummer and losses in southern france
Yes, that sounds really very good. The Tail of the Ju 88 was found by Luc Vanrel near Frioul Island about 10km south of Marseille. The tail was surely displaced by some fishtrawlers before.
I was diving there with him two weeks ago to get the Werknummer. @Chris Goss Thanks a lot for this one. Do you have the source for this loss information? I will try to get more information about the crew via WASt. |

Don't bother with WASt-they will not be able to add anything more. I got this from a search through the NVM
