320th Bomb Group, 18.April 1945
Hello gentlemen!
The mission of the 320th Bomb Group on 18.04.1945 was the raid to Schussenried/ Airfield Reichenbach. I´ve found the Final Mission Report Nr. 571 on their website. Unfortunatelly i couldn´t find any strike photos for this mission. Are there any other sources available, where i can find them? Thank you in advance! Herzliche Grüsse aus Oberschwaben, Wolfgang |

Re: 320th Bomb Group, 18.April 1945
There may not be any other sources.
Mission Report is here: http://320thbg.org/mission_pdfs/mission_571.pdf The mission was something of a failure. There were 19 of the 63 planes carrying cameras but only 3 planes took photos. The three planes that took photos (62, 34 and 14 according to the mission report) were in the first and second formations, but 8 other camera planes in those two formations did not take photos. Only 18 planes of the 63 on the mission dropped their bombs. The target co-ordinates, wX425376 (48° 01' 21'' N, 9° 38' 55'' E) is just a farm field today. The mission report reports bombing a wooded dispersal area, so perhaps the actual target was one of the nearby woods either to the south or east. The co-ordinate translator used to translate to longitude and latitude is often a little "off". Last edited by RSwank; 31st December 2018 at 14:45. |
