II/JG54 on 08Aug42
Source: allaces.ru (In the Main Direction by P.M. Faces- Voenizdat 1984)
08Aug42 19:00 (Moscow) Six Yak-1 of 236 IAP (1AE) led by Kapt Anatoliy Leonidovich Tarasov in the Pogoreloye area attacked a group of Ju-88 (Possibly KG3) and escorted by Bf-109's(II/JG54). Tarasov sent two Yaks against the escort and led four against the Ju-88's. They claimed 8 Ju-88's (one by Tarasov performing a ram). Tarasov was attacked by a Bf-109 and his wingman Serz. Mikhail Molchanov flew between them to protect Tarasov. Both Yak-1's went down (Tarasov [WIA] and Molchanov [MWIA]). JFV 9/III by Jochen Prein shows the following in that area. 6/JG54 Lt Hans Beisswenger Yak-1 (70) 16:13 S of Pogarelje 4/JG54 Hptm Heinrich Jung Yak-1 (24) 18:18 PlQu. 47864 Could the time be wrong for Beisswenger? If not Jung's 25th came that day without being noticed or confirmed. Does anyone know if any Ju-88's went down? |
