Oberlt. Walter Hockner 6/jg77 crete 1941

Does anybody know the fate of Oberlt walter hockner of 6/jg77.

He was the pilot of a bf 109 that shot down Hawker hurricane mk1 serial z4606 over crete 26/05/1941.

My grandfather was the pilot of the Hurricane and i hold no malice to this pilot but am curious to whether he survived the war and is still alive

I am not sure of the exact circumstances of the kill but any info from the luftwaffe side woould be of great interest to my research

Major Walter Hoeckner, + 25.08.1944

Hi.

Oberleutnant, later Major Walter Hoeckner was killed in an accident on August 25th 1944.

Like so many other experienced pilots in the Luftwaffe, he lost his life while taking off in a Bf 109, in this case the aircraft nosed over and the pilots was killed in the crash. (In this case Messerschmitt Bf 109G-14 WNr 460391 marked 'Rote 2')

At the time of his death, he was the Gruppenkommandeur of I./JG 4, and had a tally of at least 68 aerial victories achieved in more than 500 combat sorties.

Regards,
Andreas
