Greek civilians killed on Crete WW2
Hi guys
Do we have any Greek historians on board? If so, has anyone access to the Memeorial Rolls of Greek civilians executed by the German occupying force of Crete? I believe they did exist. I am after one specific name. Fingers crossed Brian |

Re: Greek civilians killed on Crete WW2
Hi V
Thanks for responding, My query is extremely vague and I doubt if you are able to help. I am writing the biography of RAF pilot Bill Vale who served in Greece and Crete 1941. He was very successful and was awarded the DFC twice, plus the Greek DFC. You may be aware of him. According to his family and other sources, he had a Greek girlfriend whom he allegedly married in early May 1941 in Crete. I know only her first name - Janina. The family believed she was executed by the Germans when they discovered that she was married to a British officer. Therefore her name may have been Janina Vale. As I say, not much to go on. I believe the account of their relationship to have been true since Bill Vale named his second daughter with the middle name 'Janina' (on return to the UK). Fingers crossed! Cheers Brian |
