airfield Sola - 5th Jan 1944

Hello

Is there any out there who have any information regarding an flying accident who took place at airfield Sola in South-Norway this day. I have been told that Lt. Werner Kohler (born 14.12.1909 in Stettin) was killed at airfield Sola this day. He is said to have belonged to AGr 120 but his death was notified by SAGr 131.

Only a suggestion but it happened sometimes that if unit A was subordinated to unit B, it was unit B that filed the loss report.

This could happen with reconnaissance units because often Staffeln from different Gruppen were controlled by whichever FAG Stab was in the locality. (In the West in 1944, Stab FAG 123 for example).

No name stated but a Ju 88 D-1 from 1.(F)/120 crashed and damage was reported as 100%. Reason unknown, on 5 Jan 1944 near Sola.
You have to scroll down to reach the list of aircraft lost in accidents: "Luftwaffes havarier og flyuhell i Norge og Nord-Finland 01.01.1944 - 10.05.1945".

According to the 'K' report from the crew of a JU88 of 1(F)/120 shot down off Lerwick on 5th. March 44 Ltn. Koehlar was killed when his Ju 88 crashed on take off from Sola in early January 44. His crew were shown as B. Ltn Neumann, Bf. Uffz. Schulz Bs Uffz, Wilhelm who were all killed is there any record of where these airmen are buried ?

I have done a search on the webpage of Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberführsorge e.V.

I found the following persons resting at the German War Cemetary of Trondheim-Havstein;

Leutnant Werner Köhler, born 24.12.1909 and killed on 05.01.1944. Resting at row 28, grave 58A.

Leutnant Siegfried Neumann, born 26.04.1924 and killed on 05.01.1944. Resting at row 20, grave 27A

Unteroffizier Jakob Wilhelm, born 09.09.1921 and killed on 05.01.1944, Resting at row 14, grave 22A

I have not found Schulz grave.

I believe the above persons with high probability are from the crew of the Ju 88 which crashed at Sola 05.01.1944.

The remains of around 2000 German soldiers from the SW part of Norway were transferred to the War Cemetary in Trondheim 1954-55, why the crews first resting place probably was closer to Sola.
In total 2.992 dead German military personnel from WW2 are having their final resting place at this war cemetary in Trondheim, Norway.
