Air Battle on March 22 1945 over Fürstenwalde

Hello,

Pilots of 4th Fighter Group claimed over A/Fs Fürstenwalde and Eggersdorf on March 22 1945 eleven victories over ground-attack Fw 190s, Lt.Col. Sidney Woods killed five of them.

Does somebody know to which unit planes belonged? I guess to I./SG 1. Any information about W.Nrs., types and pilots?

Thanks for help

Michal

Re: Air Battle on March 22 1945 over Fürstenwalde

Michal, from poor quality records this is what I can make out:-

22-3-45 I/SG1 lost Fw Hermann Wals killed in combat south of Trebusersee
Ltn Fred Harnack killed in combat South of Steinhofel
Uffz.Wlli Rau wounded in crashlanding Furstenwalde
Uffz Hermann Hutter wounded crash landing Furstenwalde

22-3-45 III/JG 54 lost the following pilots killed in the Eggersdorf area
Ofw. Egon Marquardt, Uffz Hans Weidlinger, Uffz Fristal
Paale, Ltn. Erich Manstein, Uffz Heinz Hofer and Fw.
Martin Unger shown as missing, plus two aircraft
damaged.

The spellings are the best I can make out and hope this helps your search,

Regards

Brian, thanks a lot. It is really what I expected :-)

By the way, I am not researching this battle, only one US flyer who participated in this battle and claimed one Fw 190, was shot down four weeks later over Bohemia.

Best regards

Michal
