Engine wreck ID

I know this maybe a hard one, but perhaps someone can ID the
aircraft type the radial engine belonged to

Re: Engine wreck ID

Pretty sure it's from a B-24. Here's another picture which looks to be from the same plane which shows the large tail rudder of a B-24.

Re: Engine wreck ID

The shot was from E-Bay.de. I was scrolling using Flugzeug Fotos and saved the photograph. Unfortunately, though
I have looked for a serial number, no luck.

The two B-24D that crashed and broke up in the dry Prahova river bed are:

B-24D, 42-40753, J, 564th BS. 389th BG-Pilot Lt. Lloyd D. Hughes (MOH) 2 POW,8 KIA
B-24D,42-40735, C, 566th BS, 389th BG-Pilot Lt. Robert W. Horton, 2 POW, 8 KIA.

This is information is from the book "The Ploesti Raid Through The Lens" by R. Freeman.

Re: Engine wreck ID

Yes these are the planes I meant , however when comparing the color shots with the B & W available there seems to be some discrepancies,
possibly the color shots are those of Horton's Lib but again I may be wrong. Attchments Horton's wreck

Re: Engine wreck ID

I may be wrong, but I think the photographs are from Lt. Hughes plane.
