Harry Daish - 218 Squadron 1941/42

Harry Daish takes over as a Flight Commander on 236 Squadron in May 1942; does anyone know year / date when he left 218 Squadron ?

I'm presuming that he was tour expired having flown consistently since 17 September 1939 and became an instructor ? Then after a period of time went back onto ops.

Thank you for your time and consideration

Andy Bird

Hi Andy,

Did you know that Daish's logbooks are extant. They were sold by Christie's in 1994. Does anyone happen to know the current whereabouts of the logbooks?

Cheers

Hi Andy and Andy,

This link has the Christie's auction lot summary of Daish’s logbooks including some dates of postings.
https://www.christies.com/LotFinder/...3-f6c1954be3fd

Harry Christian Daish enlisted in the RAAF prewar and joined the RAF on a short service commission 1936 (RAF.39004).

Hope this helps.

Regards, Drew

Hi Drew,

Thanks for that. I did actually contact Christie's a number of years ago regarding the logbooks. They were very helpful and did try and contact the buyer on my behalf but unfortunately they, the buyer, had moved without a forwarding address.

Cheers

Hi Andy,

February 1940, sadly I don't have a date. The association records state that he relinquished command of 'ZEKI" on February 16th 1940, on return of 218 Squadrons C/O, Wing Command Duggan, he appears again on February 20th as Duty Flight Lieutenant. He does not appear in the records after this date.

Not much I'm afraid.

Steve
