Re: Information concerning Loss of Leutnant Lambert Spitzer - 11.08.1942

A search of our officer database reveals nothing but a search of the Kracker database shows:

Spitzer, Lambert- Fw. - 5 victories - 6./ZG-76 (5/40), 9./NJG-3 Bf 110EK 1 & 2, Destroyer Operational Clasp KIFA 11 August, 1942; crashed at Skagerrak due to engine failure on a transit flight (Boiten). One known victory, a Morane on 15 May, 1940, at Montcornet. His 2nd victory, a Spitfire on 25 May, 1940, no location. His 3rd, a Hampden on 6 July, 1940, no location. His 4th, a Hurricane W of London on 7 September, 1940. His 5th, a Spitfire at Map Quadrant 33.2 on 29 August, 1941.

From Balss, Michael. Deutsche Nachtjagd - Personalverluste in Ausbildung und Einsatz - fliegendes Personal (Eich: Michael Balss, 1997).
:
11.08.42 9./NJG 3 KIA during a combat mission over the sea in the Skagerrak - Bf 110 D-3 (D5+NS) WNr. 4352. - crashed following an engine failure.

That's about all we can find about this fellow.

Considering that the loss location was reported as Skagerrak it would seem unlikely that this crew was headed for the UK.
