Dornier 17 Recovery
I'm sure many of you will already know but thought would share that a lift is planned for late July/early August.
Out of interest, I have attached a rarely published picture of one of the other 7/KG3 Do17Z's downed during this action. Coded 5K+ER, it made a crash landing in the sea just off Foreness Point, Isle of Thanet during the early afternoon of 26th August. The picture shows a recovery team investigating the wreck at low tide. It was damaged by a Hurricane when attempting to bomb West Malling airfield. I guess the starboard engine had already stopped as it impacted, damaging the nose in the process (or perhaps on sinking nose first). Two of the crew drowned, one died later of wounds and the other became a prisoner. Anyway, fingers crossed the lift attempt goes without a hitch! |
