14.11.43. Lt. Bailey Peter G.F. - MIA No. 4 Sq. (SAAF)

Hi all
On 14.11.43. after attacking targets at Metković (Yugo), Lt. Bailey Peter G.F. (No. 4 Sq. SAAF) in his Spitfire Mk. Vc. JK401 was hit by flak, on return flight engine cut and had to ditch in Adriatic. Search was conducted but no luck. Does any have information which unit (Squadron) made rescue attempt and at what coordinates he ditched or they searched. In book Beyond courage (Norman Frank) there is no mention of this case.
thanks in advance
Antun

Hi Antun. The co-ordinates are recorded here ( Mljet Is. near Dubrovnik).....

You could contact Tinus le Roux on this excellent SAAF site......

You have probably looked at the 4 Sqn. ORB which says (for the 14th) a subsequent search "by 2 of our aircraft yielded no results" ( presumably by 4 Sqn.).
