Lancaster Serial Numbers

Hi there Guys
I'm trying to trace some Lancaster Serial Numbers. They could belong to either a 635 Squadron Pathfinder or a Canadian 431 Squadron Lancaster X that were lost on the 6th January 1945. Any further info would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Re: Lancaster Serial Numbers

Cheers Henk for getting back to me.
It's the second one I'm investigating, these part numbers were found at the crash site near Grossauheim, I'm trying to establish if they belong to PB228 or KB821.
Cheers

Re: Lancaster Serial Numbers

PB228 was a British built Mk III.
KB821 was a Canadian built Mk X.

Did both have the same Type number?

Re: Lancaster Serial Numbers

My notes have KB821 as possibly lost in a collision over the North Sea, but this is not confirmed.

Re: Lancaster Serial Numbers

Hi there Bill
Cheers for the info. I'm investigating the possible collision of PB228 and KB821, but I'm fairly sure KB821 was not lost over the North Sea. Four crew members from KB821 were found by investigators in Langendiebach cemetery (near Hanau). Adilman, Staves, James and "Unknown Canadian Airman" were later moved to Durnbach War Cemetery (CWGC graves 5B17-19).
Many thanks

Re: Lancaster Serial Numbers

Captain_M,

I can only add that R3 = Avro.
