Romanian air units participating in Case Blue
Hi
Does anyone have a source for the Romanian air units that participated in Case Blue? I have only a rough overview: 4 Messerschmitt Bf109E fighter squadrons 6 Heinkel He111H and Savoia-Marchetti SM-79B bomber squadrons 2 Junkers Ju-87B Stuka dive-bomber squadrons plus support by light bomber and reconnaissance units And somehow I doubt that this is correct, a bit strange to see no IAR 80/81. I would like to know the squadrons, what plane type they used and how many planes they had in July 1942. |

Re: Romanian air units participating in Case Blue
If you search for author Denes Bernard you will find a work dealing with the early operations in the south. I feel sure it includes orders of battle.
You have omitted the Hurricane unit, the Blenheims, the He112s, and a number of units equipped with the P-24. The Romanians also gained a large number of ex-Polish aircraft, and put the P-11, P-23 and P-37 into use, that first probably only as a trainer. I suspect the IAR 80, being a P-24 development, probably was not available for Barbarossa, but this should be made clear in the writings on the type and by Denes Bernard, who can be strongly recommended. |

Re: Romanian air units participating in Case Blue
Except for a few reconnaissance and liaison aircraft, Rumanian air units (ARR) did not participate in the 'Fall Blau' (Summer-Autumn of 1942).

Not even further to the rear, lets say on the Crimea, Stalino or Charkov?
Hard to believe that so many Romanian divisions came in but no fighter or bomber units. |

Re: Romanian air units participating in Case Blue
There were a few ARR fighter units stationed in the Crimean Peninsula, but they did not take active part in 'Fall Blau' (they were tasked with coastal defence role). However, there were no ARR bomber aircraft at all in the area in that time period.
