FW58, I/ZG2, 1.9.40

Greetings: On Sept.1st,1940, a FW58 courier A/C of I/ZG2 was involved in a mid air collision with a Bf109E of 1/JG2 near Conchez. All personnel on both A/C were unfortunately killed. While Oblt. Siegfried Blume, St/Kpt. of 2/ZG2, and Fw. Taube of 1/JG2 are both known to me, I am curious of the first names, unit, and disposition (Pilot, Bf, Ground crew?) of Uffz. Pietruschka, and Uffz. Hornberg. Any comments appreciated. Thanks. Dean

I./ZG2 Focke-Wulf Fw58B-2 (0089). Engaged in spares delivery flight from St Aubin to Guyancourt and rammed by Bf 109 of 1/JG2 during dummy attack and crashed and burned out south of Conchez. FF Oberlt Siegfried Blume, BF Uffz Walter Pietruschka (both of 2./ZG2) and Uffz Erich Hornberg (1.Wart of 1./ZG2) all killed. Aircraft DB+CR 100% write-off.

Just idle curiousity. Where is Conchez? My gazeteer and a Google search throw up nothing.

Hi Andy: From the JG2 loss data, the collision occurred over "Emanville, vicinity of Conches-en-Ouche". Hopefully a little more helpful. Regards. Dean

Oh, and by the way....No "typoland" on Conchez, it's located just south west of Emanville. Regards. Dean
