Obltn Heinrich Koss 4.(H)/12 or 4.NAGr.12
In a recent issue of Avions Koss is described as a victim of AC Deniau, flying a Spitfire of GCI/3 on 17 October 1943 however he is listed in the Kracker database as lost due to bad weather on 16 October 1943.
The Decot brothers confirm Deniau shot down a Bf109 near Aaccio on 17 October 1943, however Poeet/Thevenet date the victory on 16 October 1943. Opinions? best regards Keith |

Re: Obltn Heinrich Koss 4.(H)/12 or 4.NAGr.12
4.(H)/12:
16.10.43: Bf 109G-2 shot down by a Free French Spitfire IX 15 km NE of Ajaccio/Corsica, one of two the Staffel sent out to check airfields in the Ajaccio area, 100%, Oblt. Heinrich Kess captured. KESS, Heinrich. (DOB: 11.10.10). (W.B.K. Linz). 01.07.43 promo to Oblt. (Kr.O./Fl.). 16.10.43 Oblt. in 4.(H)/Aufkl.Gr. 12 - POW after his Bf 109 G-6 (White 10) shot down by a Free French Spitfire IX over Corsica [Version #2: crashed E of Corsica in bad weather]. KOSS, Heinrich. 16.10.43 Oblt., 4./NAGr. 12 KIA - Bf 109 G-6 (White 10). apparently due to bad weather. KESS is the correct spelling. But, was he shot down or did he crash? Maybe he crashed as a result of being shot down? L. deZ. |

Kess was killed in the crash between Italy and Corsica according to Gräberkartei.
