82 Sqn Loss 13 May 41
V5997 was reported lost on this date during at attack on Ste Nazaire. Its crew (Miller, Ingram & Whiteman) were reported interned. I have come across 8 photos showing the crash of this Blenheim with German inspecting the wreckage. Any ideas where it might have come down and the eventual fates of the crew?

Re: 82 Sqn Loss 13 May 41
If German troops inspected the wreckage it should have gone down in occupied France but the crew evaded and managed to reach the unoccopied zone (Vichy France). Here they were interned and evaded.
The evasion from French camp of at least two of the crew is in this webpage: http://www.conscript-heroes.com/Art%20Bob%20Milton.html All three crew were interned by French and evaded, as shown by this list: http://www.conscript-heroes.com/MI9-01.html |

Re: 82 Sqn Loss 13 May 41
They will have Escape & evasion reports at the TNA if they are on the MI9 lists on the conscript heroes website. Might be easier than the AHB.

Re: 82 Sqn Loss 13 May 41
Typical. AHB has Miller's report which confirms ac code as K, they flew from Portreath and at 1600 hrs descended over Ste Nazaire. What happened next refers to Ingram's report which they cannot find!

Dennis: Not sure by what you mean. AHB have copies and as far as I am aware so does Kew but I have not had a chance to check the latter.

Re: 82 Sqn Loss 13 May 41
Seek & ye shall find. UX-K was brought down by intense Flak and crash-landed between Ste Nazaire & Paimboeuf. Sgt Ingram was a NZ-er with the DFM by the way

Re: 82 Sqn Loss 13 May 41
Another update thanks to faint writing on the back of one of the photos. Crash site was 'bei Donges' which is north of the Loire opposite Paimboeuf

Re: 82 Sqn Loss 13 May 41
Chris you probably allready know that, but there was at Donges a refinery that was a regular target of the RAF.
