In his biography Lagoda describes his military career. From Reichsarbeitsdienst/Reich Labor Service (RAD) in April 1939, he joined his military service in the 6. Kompanie Luftnachrichtenregiment 2 in Münster-Gremmendorf. Finally, Lagoda was transferred for being trained as a wireless operator at the Luftnachrichtenschule Halle/Saale. Until August 1940 they have been taught radio instruction on the ground and in the air in Halle and later in Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic.
From August to November 1940 Lagoda was at Aufklärerschule Gotha, which was under command of the Fernaufklärerschule Großenhain. In December 1940 Lagoda went to the Blindflugschule 4 in Vienna-Aspern, and from there in January 1941 to Ergänzungsaufklärungsgruppe (F) Ob.d.L. Berlin-Doeberitz.
In May 1941 Lagoda was transferred to the 2nd (F) / Ob.d.L. in France. The squadron had many losses over England then and Lagoda describes this time very impressively. He himself made no combat flights to England, because the squadron was transferred to Insterburg in East Prussia in June 1941 for the forthcoming operation against Russia.
Lagoda further on describes his time in Russia, his combat flights, e.g. the impressive retreat from airfields near Stalingrad and a recon flight to Iraq. Also, one can find very rare and impressive aerial photos from Astrachan, Woronesch, Charkow, Saratow, Poltawa, Rostow, Sochumi, Leningrad, Moscow, an English airfield in Iraq and near Teheran/Iran, Mosul/Iraq, destroyed tanks, planes and personnel, emblems and anniversary flights (e.g. 1000st recon flight of 2.(F)/100 on 4 February 1943).
In August 1943 Lagoda was transferred to the Luftnachrichtenschule 5 in Erfurt-Bindersleben/Germany, where he acted as an instructor. In September 1944 he was an instructor for Hitler Youth and took command over an antiaircraft unit. In April 1945 his unit was taken prisoner in the Ruhrkessel.
In the appendix one can find the Staffelkapitäne of the squadrons Ob.dL, with all emblems and Verbandskennzeichen (unit codes) and the detailed casualty lists from October 1939 to March 1945.

Absolutely recommended book for everyone who is interested in first hand history.

Best regards,

Christian
