A ?? RE: Norbert Hannig

I finished reading Norbert Hannig's War Memoirs--good read by the way, I STRONGLY recommend getting your hands on if you haven't all ready; I had a question about one of the engagements Hannig had with an 8th AF raid way out to Eastern Germany...so:

Who's the 8th AF FG who escorted the raid to The Meseritz Hydrogenation Plant in "Late" June 1944; Hannig flew out of Liegnitz as an instructor pilot leading a Schwarm of 1/JGr Ost's "einsatzstaffel" but was unable to reach the bombers...being chased away by the Mustang escort; he did manage to save his wingman Heino Cordes by shooting a Mustang down, off of his tail LITERALLY at treetop level---any ideas as to which US FG was involved in this fight and their losses/claims for the day;

I cannot pin down the date other than what Hannig said: "Late June";

TIA

Re: A ?? RE: Norbert Hannig

I can't help you Nick, Only add another question, Was Heino Cordes a brother or in any way related to Loco killer Udo Cordes?
If you get no answer here Nick, You might try to send off a PM to Erich Brown.

Weisner:

I dunno about Heino Corde's being related to Udo Cordes or not; Erich is a semi-regular here & he writes me off board from time to time; anyways, I have PLENTY of time;

Kaki & shooshoo:

Thank you for the info; kind of funny that Hannig's memories are around one month off eh? And I assume that these planes were shot down in the right area;

Thanks again...
