Km/h on German Airpseed Indicator, as opposed to Km/s - can someone clarify?

Hey guys...

There was a thread here that I cannot find.

It described the reasoning why German instruments (specifically the Airspeed indicator) had "Km/h" on the dial, as opposed to "Km/s".

If I recall correctly, it had to do with some sort of early 1930s technical standardization (to English?).

Cannot find the original thread, and was curious if someone can clarify the reasoning.

TIA

Mike

The metric system was already being established - based on the metre/kilo/second (MKS), though cm,g,sec (cgs) was also about

If you put s on a German instrument, do you mean hours or seconds?

Of course the scale will tell you, but using h makes it clear

Suggest standardisation would be to french as no self respecting Englishman in 1930 had any truck with that metric rubbish. Abandoning Imperial units was where the rot first set in.

Just a thought

No one’s told the sellers of draught beer or the people who make road signs yet!

km/h means kilometers per hour It is used for forward speed.
m/s means meters per second It is used for vertical speed.
I don't think there is km/s on the dials.
