MACR 11601 William Tomson
Hello,
I found a notice that an american flyer was burried on 02.Dez.1944 on a local cementary near giessen. His name was William Tomson. I did not find a loss on this day with the name tomson. But I have informations that MACR 11601 describe the fate of William Tomson. Perhaps anybody have information about the above MACR and Tomson? Thanks in advance. Kind Regards. |

Re: MACR 11601 William Tomson
Flugplatz,
MACR 11601 describes the loss of P-47 42-76247 on 2 Dec 1944, apparently near Pforzheim with (probably) pilot Lt John Molen. You can view this MACR on footnote.com, but not being a member, I can't read the fine print. Name of Tomson not in annotations however. Regards, Leendert |

Re: MACR 11601 William Tomson
If he was shot down I do not think that he would have been burried in a local cemetery on the same day.
So expect that Tomson was downed at an earlier date. perhaps local spelling of a forign name Thompson or Thomson ? Alex |

Re: MACR 11601 William Tomson
Hello,
thanks for the answers. Alex, I make a mistake. The name was Wiliam Thomson and he was burried on 02.12.1944. Perhaps a crew member of a downed bomber or a fighter pilot.? Any information more is welcome. Thanks. |

Re: MACR 11601 William Tomson
Hello,
I came up with the following - in connection with Lt. Richard W. Thomson - KIA 42-97567 - MACR 4860 - B17 - 96/413 - 12 May 44 2Lt. William Edward Thomson - POW 42-39976 - MACR 4820 - B17 - 452/731 - 12 May 44 Edwin Wesley Thomson 42-97549 - MACR 3196 - not lost - 452 - 8 March 44 (Only five crewmembers listed however in Mighty Eighth Combat Chronology Thomson not one of them). But 29 May 44 42-97549 - MACR 5228 - 452 2Lt. Edwin W. Thomson - POW Could find no suitable others on Footnote Alex Last edited by Alex Smart; 29th April 2008 at 16:07. |

Re: MACR 11601 William Tomson
Hello Alex,
Lt. R.W. Thomson was killed on 12.Mai 1944 in his plane who crashed near Erbach. A crew-member saw him slumped over the dash board in the plane. So it is not William Thomson I´m searching. It is a very difficult think! Thank you. |

Re: MACR 11601 William Tomson
Good morning !
1st Lt. John E. Molen, USAAF s/n O-810550, was buried by U.S. troops at U.S. cemetary Saint Avold close to Metz, France. Later his remains were returned to the USA and he found his rest somewhere in the State of Ohio. Best wishes ! Horst Weber |
