Re: Me109 Crash near Heidelberg

Good evening,

i think, the pilot in question is: Ofw. Walter Busse, III./JG 53 .
The date i have in mind is the 23. Feb. 1945 .

Busse was shot down twice that date.
However - the place(s) are not given in detail - neither in the Gen.Qu. returns, nor in the Prien JG.53-chronicle (pt.3). Busse wasn't hurt - so no personnel loss record ("Namentliche Verlustmeldung", NVM) was issued.
The main battle area that day was roughly (Pforzheim - Karlsruhe - Bretten - Bruchsal - Walldorf).

It was definitely before 30/31. March 45 ... since the combined US/French force crossed the river Rhine on the 30th (the US at Germersheim, the French at Leimersheim/Leopoldshafen).
The III./JG 53 had moved before that date to their new base at Neuhausen-ob-Eck (M.Holm's site is slightly wrong regarding the date of this dislocation).

Kind regards,
Uwe K. - Leopoldshafen/Karlsruhe/D

Re: Me109 Crash near Heidelberg

No info I am afraid but, if the crash was excavated in 1990, surely there was some info about the identity from that?
Cheers

Re: Me109 Crash near Heidelberg

Hello Uwe,
thank you for the information, i will look in the Prien Book for more detailed information.

Hello schwarze man,
the plane was a Me109 but it was not identified with the unit characteristic.

Thanks both
