JG2 Losses June 26, 1943
Hello,
Could someone tell me if this group had any losses on this day that were credited to B-17's and not fighters? Earlier posts said only 109's were lost to fighters (P-47's) but I am hoping someone can find something that corroborates information from the 384th BG that (2) 109's were shot down over Villacoublay by B-17's during the raid and not during the return flight by fighter escorts. -Brian |

Thank you! And you are certain those are credited to B-17's? Could you tell me anything else about those pilots or that day?

Re: JG2 Losses June 26, 1943
The account I have:
Fighters (about 15) were coming in low at 6 o'clock, singly. The weather was cloudy and there was no flak. Sgt. Aguiar, ball-turret gunner, shot down two fighters - one went down trailing heavy black smoke and the other, after coming in to fifty yards, fell away in a spiral. Just then I hearf the pilot call the navigator for the course home but before he got the course he called out, "I've lost all four engines! Bale out!".... ...One week later Frenchmen said he seen two Me109's that were shot down on June 26 in area where our aircraft went down. Does this support your findings? -Brian |
