Re: Michael Brezas - February 5, 1954

Zdenek,

Cause of crash: midair collison with F-84G of same unit (430 FBS/474 FBG), flown by Capt. Glenn O. Poulson, who also was killed.
Serials found are 51-1106 (Brezas) and 51-10391 (Poulson).

Routine training mission.

Regards,

Leendert

Re: Michael Brezas - February 5, 1954

Hello there Gentlemen,

I've found an entry about Michael Brezas that lists the locations of his kills:
https://books.google.ch/books?id=Oq9...20p-38&f=false
However I have trouble with the places
  • Menninger, Germany
  • Buzua, Rumania
  • Blechhammer, Germany
  • Kurin, Czechoslovakia
which I find on no map.
Can anybody help me ?

Michael

Re: Michael Brezas - February 5, 1954

Michael,

Menninger: location of combat is given as 44-50N, 13-10E, Udine area
Buzua: location is given as Buzau & Zeolisti A/Ds
Blechhammer: a synthetic oil target attacked frequently by 15th AF. Location of combat is given as 10 m S of Bratislavia. See Wikipedia for Blechhammer
Kurin: location of combat is given as 49-20N, 16-35E

Please do not believe the listing of Brezas as being Hispanic, as given in your source. The family was from Austria, as I remember given in a US census report, and as mentioned by his son.

Enjoy!

Frank.

Re: Michael Brezas - February 5, 1954

Good evening Frank,

thanks so much for the coordinates. I had a good time finding them on the map. Now I think Michael Brezas scored over what is now Austria, Hungary, Germany, Italy, Rumania and the Czech Republic. That makes him the top P-38 ace over the continent of Europe because William Sloan scored some of his kills over Africa, didn't he ?

Thanks again,

Michael
