Re: HMIS Indus 6/4/42

Hi guys,

Sorry, I'm unable to provide any further information. That contribution came via Chris Shores and Yasuho Izawa.

Cheers

Hi,

According to Genzan Air Group’s “Sentô Kôdô Chôsho (roughly translated to “preliminary action reports”) Dec. 1941 – May 1942”, Japan Center for Asian Historical Records ( https://www.jacar.go.jp/english/index.html ), Reference Code: C08051612300, 27th and 28th images), followings are mentioned.

6. Apr. 1942. Akyab harbour bombing, the number of Nells was 26, not 27.

Bombing time: 2nd Squadron released 1229 (the Kôdô Chôsho does not mention a time zone but probably GMT + 9 hrs.), all bombs missed.

1st Squadron released 1233, all bombs missed.

3rd Squadron released 1240, one bomb hit the stern of a minelayer and sank her.

Total released bomb number (including Akyab airfield bombing): 106 60kg-bombs, 26 250kg-bombs.

Best regards!
JYoung

Those times are probably Tokyo time, which IIRC was several hours later than LT.

Exactly, thus I wrote "GMT + 9 hrs."
